Algorithmics, the world's leading provider of risk solutions, submitted a comprehensive response to the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, supplying an analytical review of the Guidelines for Computing Capital for Incremental Risk in the Trading Book proposed in July 2008. While commending the Committee for its prompt action in response to the credit crisis, as it stood in July, Algorithmics expressed some concerns whether the implementation of the proposed rules would be consistent with the Committee's stated objectives in a number of areas. Substantiating its concerns with several detailed technical documents, Algorithmics suggested further consideration of those rules.

BNP Paribas commits to financing the real economy - the Group takes part to the tune of €2.55 billion in the plan to support growth.The French government has announced(1) the introduction of a plan to support lending growth within the economy. This plan is subject to review by the European Commission. Open to banks who comply with regulatory capital requirements imposed by the Commission bancaire, this plan allows them access to complementary funding in the form of subordinated debt which counts towards Tier 1 capital…

Northern Trust Global Advisors Survey of Institutional Money Managers Finds Dim Outlook on Global Economy - October, 2008. In a sign of continued market uncertainty, a poll of investment managers conducted by Northern Trust Global Advisors (NTGA) found a large majority, regardless of investment strategy, expect corporate earnings to drop and global growth to decelerate in the short term.  The survey did reveal some bright spots within the US equity market, most notably in the healthcare, technology and energy market segments.
